Web in Sunlight

Reflective web

Sometimes you just happen to be at the right place at the right time. This orb weaver (at least that’s what I assume it is, given the web) and her highly reflective web were just off the path, and with the web and sun aligned just so, I found myself required to take this shot.

I hope to upload some examples of my better long-term photographs tomorrow night.

Garden Spider

Another garden spider / cotton spider, though this one was found at Rowlett Creek. Huge thing, too, nearly as big as my thumb (excluding the legs).

So, how many of you looked at your thumb when I said that?

Anyway, it was munching away happily on . . . something, and ignored my intrusion.

Edit: Disclaimer: I’ve been doing the Friday Spider in tribute to the Insect Picture of the Day. Not in an effort to steal his thunder. I had no idea that he did a Golden Orb Weaver when I scheduled this post.

Another find from July 5th.

Small Wolf Spider

The morning sun provided rather nice lighting for this tiny spider. To be honest, it was found while I was trying to get into a better position for a different shot (which will follow, eventually).

I like the fact that it seems to be considering leaping across an abyss.

Cotton Spider

Or at least that’s what I was told it was:

Cotton Spider

I hope you’ll forgive the black and white format, but this time I think the color doesn’t contribute much to the overall image. If asked, I can post the color version later on.

This particular beauty was photographed on the way to and from a White Rock Lake shot. It was late, and the light improved (in my opinion) as the sun set. Or rather, improved for this rather patient subject.

One note: If you’re leeeeaning in to get a closer shot of a spider, with the wee beastie maybe an inch or two from the lens, and your main concern is whether or not you’re going to fall in to the water on the other size of the web (camera in hand), you’ll find that you don’t have arachnophobia.

If however, you find that this image disturbs you, avoid my Friday postings. I have enough to go for a while.

Guest on Crepe Myrtle

I was going on Wednesday about an occupant in a Crepe Myrtle. For those that hadn’t figured out what I was going on about, here it is.

Sorry I didn’t post yesterday. I was traveling to visit relations in East Texas. If I have energy and worthwhile pics, I’ll try to post something this evening.

Crepe Myrtle with Guest

We went to Fort Worth to visit relatives. I decided to get some shots of this crepe myrtle’s flowers, being the sort that I am. I rather wish I had noticed the occupant before wandering off.

Edit: available at the Be Mused Art Cafe Press Store.

Tired, Going Home

Monday, June 30th, 2008

After we finished setting up for an art festival, I trudged to the van, and was greeted by this:

Tired, Going Home

The gritty feel and the sunset seemed to summarize how we felt: Tired, ready to go home, but satisfied with a job well done.

As before, we have Cafe Press Store products available.

Arachnid Friday, perhaps.

The eminently nifty and geeky Insect Picture of the Day has “Spider Fridays”, but I don’t know that I’ll be able to do similar. However, I do have this:

Spider 2

A rather nifty garden spider found down at White Rock Lake. No camera info this time, as the original is at home and I’m not (MBA classes).
