Bad me, I said that if I had good photos and energy, I would post. Well, I had good photos, anyway, but came back without energy.
Oh, how it was done:
- Find an area out at a local lake where the local pyromaniacs gather once (or twice) a year.
- Find out where the shiniest results of such fire (and noise) worship might be. This is your background.
- Put the camera on a tripod. I forgot mine, but was able to borrow one from one more clueful than I.
- Figure out your exposure. In this case I set the camera for ISO 100 (probably should have gone for 200 or even 400), 10 seconds (because I wanted streaks), and F22 (because (unlike a fair percentage of my other photos) I wanted as much as possible in focus). Fiddling beforehand helps figure some of this out.
- There is no step 5.
- Hand the daughter a sparkler, tell her to stand there, and “draw in the air”.
- From there, it’s patience and luck.
Another post will follow once I figure out what it shall contain.
… or is that a given?
