Thank you. My hope and aim is to post a picture each day that I've taken, and InsectPOD has been one of my inspirations.

I highly recommend it. It can be almost like a mini-vacation if you do it right. I'm lucky enough to have parks close enough (walking distance to less than a half-hour drive) that have opportunities.
Admittedly, part of the reason I do it is the mini-vacation aspect. It helps to have "Relax!" as part of the weekly ritual. If I end up producing something in the process, all the better!
Just avoid getting into the "I've gotta do this" mindset. It's less fun if it's required / work...

I am astonished and a little embarrassed that I haven't gone out a single day for a full-blown photo trip for insectpod this year. I've kept the camera with me 24/7 and cadged pictures when I see opportunities, but I admit I haven't gone out and made opportunities yet.

Hmm... maybe I should go do that this weekend....

I like the quote. Thanks for the comment, too. I've been pondering getting together twelve images (preferably taken during the month in question) and making a calendar. Since I'm trying to take photos every weekend, I'm hoping to have enough of a selection.

Gorgeous!

I want it as one of those inspirations calendar thingies. Only I'd probably put something stupid on it, like "CONNECTEDNESS: If you had left your blackberry at the office, the ringer wouldn't have scared that bird off."

Now that song will be running through my head all day. Thanks . . .

I actually have several photos that I need to go through and submit. I've been trying to keep up a photo a day and between that, work, MBA classes, and family, it's hard to figure out when to do which.

Apart from that, thanks for the story of the two spiders. You need to post it to the InsectPOD site. It may provoke other stories (like the smaller spider eating the larger) from your readers.

Also - I've been trying to restrain myself with the orb-spinners, as they're fairly common at my two current favorite "hunting grounds", and I don't want to make this an exclusively Argiope spider blog. Unfortunately, I'm not quite as "quick on the draw" as I would like, and they provide the dual temptation of "pretty" and "sit still".

Either way, thank you for noticing!

Hi James!

No thunder stolen at all. Keep it up! You've got a gorgeous Argiope spider there; they make beautiful webs are are fascinating (if a bit creepy) to watch.

My single biggest "one that got away" picture for insectpod was a few years ago, before I got my good camera. A small (3/4" maybe) argiope had built her web across a gas meter pit, anchoring the bottom of it to a gigantic, unused tangleweb down in the pit. While I was taking pictures of the argiope, it was revealed that the tangleweb was very much still occupied by an inch-long black widow spider. The widow crawled up out of her tangleweb and right up into the argiope's web!

I learned three things about spiders that day: Black widow spiders don't stick to glue webs, argiope spiders will jump out of their webs when something bigger than them comes crawling into their web, and argiope spiders don't get tangled up in black widow webs.

Anyway, great pic, and hope to see more of you over at InsectPOD. Loved your Ichneumon wasp!
