No Picture Tonight

August 14th, 2008

Just got back from dinner, and I’m going to bed.

Good night.

Texas Historical Commission … Of Doom!

August 13th, 2008

Texas Historical Commission - Dark

Former(?) church? … check.
Bell tower? … check.
Gloomy lighting? … check.
Cloud cover? … check.

Ok, the lighting was done by under-exposing a shot with the sun behind the building itself. Either way, apparently this building, found between the UT campus and the capital, is a Texas Historical Commission… office? Library?

*Sigh*

I guess I need to take notes as I wander.

Firemen’s Monument

Firemen's Memorial

I’ll admit it, I enjoyed the sky and the back-lit imagery.

Austin Resident

Squirrel

That’s right. I’m in Austin, on the UT campus, visiting the State Capital, and I show you a picture of… a squirrel.

Ah, but ain’t the fuzzy-tailed rodent cute? … Cute… rodent. On the capital grounds. Not a politician, honest.

Heard Museum Columbine

Columbine

As is illustrated, there’s more than one way to enjoy a flower. Lovely scent, lovely appearance, and (it would seem) it tastes great and is less filling…

Railroad Tracks, part Deux – edited

August 9th, 2008

Tracks

Another shot of the railroad tracks at the White Rock Bike Trail. Amusingly enough, the trail goes under these tracks. As a matter of fact, you will have to duck should you wish to cross. I can only imagine it adds to the experience to be zipping along on this trail (which, by the way, has some “interesting” bumps (bumps I could hide in, it would seem) before this underpass) and see several red ribbons tied nearby, which I have taken to read as “Look Out!”, and then have a railroad tie at eye (or forehead, if you’re short) height.

If you look above and to the left of the tracks, you’ll see the bike trail continuing on, with or without a cyclist…

All risks to life and limb aside, I like these tracks. They’re going places.

Off topic: I will be heading off to Austin tomorrow for the Austin Intensive program associated with my UT DEMBA program (University of Texas at Austin’s Dallas Executive Master’s of Business Administration, that is). I have not queued up any blog entries (bad me), so we’ll see what we’ve got.

Edit: I would say that I can’t believe I did that, but I can. Either way, it now points to the proper image. Oops.

Flying off, into the … Sunrise?

August 8th, 2008

Flying off into the sunrise

I’ve upgraded. Previously I scared off insects and spiders, now I’m scaring off crane-like birds with by underbrush-crashing.

Another Morning at the Lake shot. I have a few more, and this one looks like it belongs on a Chamber of Commerce calendar…

Honeybee in Thistle

Honeybee in Thistle

Another Heard Museum find. I couldn’t persuade the bee to pose. But still, it didn’t seem to mind the photos.

Teapot Fountain

Teapot Fountain

No tempest here.

While in China for my trip, I was taken to a tea plantation near Hangzhou. Being a typical tourist, my camera was nearly glued to my face, and so I brought back this.

Peek a Boo

August 5th, 2008

Peek a Boo

A large, wide-eyed stone frog crouches, half hidden with an insane grin planted on his face.

You imagine him (no way it’s a “her”) waiting until some littler one wanders by to leap out and shout, in its grating voice (what other type of voice would a stone frog have?) “Peek a Boo!”.

Screams and tears always follow, with a half-mumbled, half-apologetic “Sorry, I was only trying to play…”.
